Akinola Ebunolu Akintayo is a Senior Lecturer and Legal Consultant at the Department of Public Law, University of Lagos. He is a privacy and emerging technologies, criminal law and criminal justice administration, constitutional law and democracy expert. He has special interest in data protection. His interest in this emerging area flows from his work on privacy in the digital age. Akintayo is a socio-legal scholar who approaches the intersection of law and technology from the broader areas of democracy, equality, socio-economic justice and equality of vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals and groups.

He is the Managing Editor of the newly established African Journal on Privacy and Data Protection (the Journal). The Journal is an international journal published by the Pretoria University Law Press (PULP), University of Pretoria, South Africa. Akintayo was the Coordinator of the Certificate Course in Data Protection organized by the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos in conjunction with the Human Resources Development Centre (HRDC), University of Lagos in 2022.

Akintayo is also member of the Data Protection Project/Research Groups on Developing a Compliance Ready Data Protection Environment in Nigeria and on Human Rights by Design in AI Governance in Africa. Akintayo holds an LLD (Public Law) from the Department of Public Law, Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria and an LLM in human rights from the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria, South Africa. He obtained his LL.B Degree from the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos. He is widely published and has presented papers at local and international conferences.
